About Document Legalisation

Document legalisation and attestation is a multi-step process required to make overseas documents legally valid in the UAE, and to authenticate UAE documents for use abroad. The process varies depending on the document type, country of origin, and the authority requiring the document.

Prism 7 Corporate manages the complete attestation chain — from initial notarisation and home-country verification through to embassy attestation and UAE MOFA legalisation — ensuring your documents meet all requirements without rejection.

Our Document Legalisation Service

Attestation & Legalization

We process document attestation through the UAE Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation — required for documents issued abroad and intended for use within the UAE.

Educational Certificate Legalization

Degree certificates, diplomas, and professional qualifications require a specific attestation chain before being recognised by UAE authorities. We manage this multi-step process.

Apostille & Country-Specific Chains

Documents from countries party to the Hague Apostille Convention follow a different process from those that are not. We advise on the correct chain for your document's country of origin.

Personal Document Processing

Birth certificates, marriage certificates, divorce decrees, and other personal documents can be processed for use in UAE government applications, visa submissions, and legal matters.

Commercial Document Attestation

Commercial documents including company certificates, board resolutions, and powers of attorney can be attested for use in UAE commercial, banking, and regulatory contexts.

Progress Tracking & Updates

Attestation chains involve multiple authorities and can span several stages. We track progress and keep you informed at each step without requiring you to contact authorities directly.

Document Legalisation in the UAE — Your Questions Answered

Notarisation involves a licensed notary public certifying the authenticity of a document or signature. Attestation is the process of having a document officially verified by the relevant government authority in the country of origin (typically the issuing ministry and then the foreign affairs ministry). Legalisation refers to the final step of authentication by the UAE Embassy or Consulate in the origin country, or by the UAE Ministry of Foreign Affairs for documents already in the UAE.

Common documents requiring legalisation for UAE use include educational certificates (for employment, licensing, and equivalency applications), birth certificates (for family visa applications), marriage certificates (for spousal residency visas), corporate documents (for company formation and banking), power of attorney documents, and judicial documents. Each use case has its own specific attestation pathway.

The UAE joined the Hague Apostille Convention and began accepting apostilles in 2021. For documents originating from countries that are also Hague Convention members, an apostille may replace the embassy legalisation step. However, some UAE government authorities still require the traditional embassy attestation chain for certain document types. We advise on the accepted pathway for your specific document and destination authority.

The timeline depends on the document type, the country of origin, and the specific authorities involved. A document originating in the UK or EU and destined for use with a UAE authority may take one to three weeks through the full attestation chain. Expedited services are available for some authorities. We manage the chain on your behalf and provide realistic timelines at the outset.

Documents are often legalised for a specific purpose and some authorities will only accept recently issued attestations. An educational certificate attested for an equivalency application may not automatically satisfy a bank's requirements — the bank may require a separate attestation chain or a more recent completion date. We confirm the exact requirements for each intended use before commencing the process.
